“Brown looks at Williams’ life in Inward Hunger”

Film-maker Mariel Brown allowed a first look at her ambitious new project, Inward Hunger, on September 14. Invited guests were treated to a private screening of part one of the film, at the auditorium of the Eric Williams Financial Complex, Port-of-Spain. The location was most appropriate, as the movie tells the story of the life of this country’s first Prime Minister, Dr Eric Williams.

Inward Hunger: The Story of Eric Williams is a pioneering documentary series that reveals Eric Williams in unprecedented breadth and depth, in the context of the history, society, region and world that shaped him; the forces to which he at times succumbed, and those he fought to change. Dr. Eric Eustace Williams is a complex and controversial Caribbean figure best known for leading Trinidad and Tobago to Independence in 1962. This year, the 100th anniversary of his birth, comes a new documentary series that explores the fascinating personal and political history of the country’s first Prime Minister.

A NEW documentary series, exploring the life of Dr Eric Williams and depicting him as, among other things, a tragic figure and a prime minister who turned a blind eye to corruption in his Cabinet, was launched last Wednesday night by the director Mariel Brown. Brown said she has a strong belief that an audience will be interested in, “a fuller picture of the man we know as the father of the nation.”
